In the case of a wildfire, I doubt a 5 foot space between vegetation and a house will make much difference.
Seems like this is more pure leftist idiocy. Maybe a 25 foot space would help. But 5 feet? I don't think so.

So many shitty apartments and condos, just got worse. Now they cant even landscape around them effectively for shading and bit of green those residents get.
If it sticks, it will likely cause value shifts, up in non red, down in red. With some interesting pockets of non red vs non in the same area.
Yes it's all about taking away the value of any assets those darned conservative savers have tried to protect from inflation by keeping it out of the banks and putting it in property. Dems love to inflate away savings, and now they can take property values down with low income high density housing for all.
Interesting - and definitely leftist. Checked out the place where my parents used to live - hilly area in the east part of LA County. Their place is in a yellow zone, but the neighbors house is split down the middle with orange. Red zone is half a block away. Generally the red zone corollates well with the steeper, brushier land and houses adjoining it, but all the properties there are fence with 6' high masonry walls. How will that work out with their new mandates?
If not flammable it would be okay, but any plants and trees have to go.
