Addressing intimate partner violence, gender-based violence, and self-harm involving firearms by creating a new “red flag” law that would enable courts to require that individuals considered a danger to themselves or others surrender their firearms to law enforcement, while protecting the safety of the individual applying to the red flag process, including by protecting their identity.
There it is. That’s the condition that can be applied to anyone. Local police could determine that every resident in their county is a danger to themselves. There will be public discussion of these confiscations allowed because they are considered private, confidential matters.
I’m surprised all of this didn’t come sooner. We have no second amendment. The things codified in law to protect us from our government do not give us any direct power. As this prime minister has shown, they are not worth the paper they were drafted on if the current government chooses to ignore them.
