I am fortunate to live near a family-run independent store which carries fresh eggs from multiple local farms. Yeah they cost 2 to 3 times as much, but each egg is still under 50¢ and there is such a huge difference in quality that I feel it's worth it, and my money stays closer to home.

Sounds like industrial efficiency affects the price more than shipping expenses.

Even with super fresh eggs I have found that cooking them in a pressure cooker makes the easiest peels ever, those eggs just slide out of the shell.

That might actually mean they're "too" fresh. If you get another dozen like that, keep some for over a week or two and try them then again, to see if there's a difference.
