Spent the day improving the old coop. Wanting to make it a little more secure and easier to manage.
Here are the accomplishments I'd like to brag about:
Attached run to coop so chickens can let themselves out and in. Secured transition with hardware cloth
This was so bad I was able to just pull it off with my hands.
. Not enough shingles so for now a couple sheets of waterproof floor covering will do.
Added boards to enclose a dirt bath box in the coop. Filled that with sand and peat moss so the chickens can clean themselves. Their roosts (which they don't use) and poop-catcher-tray goes above that.
Fixed water feeder that stopped working recently.
Added oyster shells to their environment for calcium
Left to do:
Get real shingles and redo roof.
Change direction of roof slope and make the pitch much steeper.
Redo my door into the run. Side opening door will no longer work due to buried hardwear cloth, but a vertical opening door would work.
