Spent the day improving the old coop. Wanting to make it a little more secure and easier to manage.

Here are the accomplishments I'd like to brag about:

Attached run to coop so chickens can let themselves out and in. Secured transition with hardware cloth

This was so bad I was able to just pull it off with my hands.

. Not enough shingles so for now a couple sheets of waterproof floor covering will do.

Added boards to enclose a dirt bath box in the coop. Filled that with sand and peat moss so the chickens can clean themselves. Their roosts (which they don't use) and poop-catcher-tray goes above that.

Fixed water feeder that stopped working recently.

Added oyster shells to their environment for calcium

Left to do:

Get real shingles and redo roof.

Change direction of roof slope and make the pitch much steeper.

Redo my door into the run. Side opening door will no longer work due to buried hardwear cloth, but a vertical opening door would work.

Sadly they only get to go out into the yard when we're around, which is not often enough. We have to watch them so they don't get into the garden and also make sure cats don't get at them.

They made their own dirt bath in the yard which they use every time they get a chance to go out, which is partly what inspired me to put one in their coop, so they can hopefully use it more often.

I would love to do a bigger run. Obstacles are time and materials and getting my wife on board.
