My guess would be that they'd still have shot Harambe, regardless of the kid's apparent race. Because it was partially exacerbated by the zoo's lack of an available qualified Handler, preferably someone who was handy with a tranquilizer dart gun. But even a tranq might have been unnecessary had a proper Handler been available, someone who Harambe was familiar with and used to following orders from. It takes a long time to build up such a relationship with a wild animal like this, but using operand conditioning it is possible to get a zoo animal such as a gorilla to obey certain commands such as "Go to your house." Not 100% reliable, which is why the tranq dart gun exists.

Owning and publicly displaying a gorilla in an open habitat like this comes with certain responsibilities in my opinion, one of those being a properly educated staff of professionals to run things. And preparation for contingencies such as "What if a child climbs into the enclosure?"

But yeah, it was a niglet, so of course he climbed in. His Mammy sow was probably swiping right on her phone to get her some Muh Dik.
