A meteor is one of those streaks of light you see flash across the sky.

A meteoroid is the material that causes such a meteor to appear. It can be a rock, a piece of junk, fragments from an asteroid or comet, or whatever -- anything that passes through earths atmosphere in spectacular fashion.

A meteorite is any part of a meteoroid that survives a fall to earth.

I became aware of it due to the meteorite strike in Russia, some years back.
It's interesting, but seems to mean a number of different things in different fields.
