17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: 18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: - Heb 6:17-18 (KJV)
God is so awesome, in that He does things that us humans can understand, like confirming His promise to Abraham by an oath. God’s word is all that we should ever need, but because He knows us humans He swore by an oath His promises to Abraham, and his seed (Jesus), and us who are born again. Just think us Christians who have been born again, are the “heirs of promise” that this verse is referring to. If you read about all the promises, and blessings, given to Abraham by God, and realize that they all apply to us Christians, how can you ever be sad again. Through the sacrifice that Jesus made for us, we are now the heirs of promise that God made (Galatians 3:29), and we have access to all the benefits that means. Praise God for sending His Son to fulfill all the requirements for us to become heirs with Him.
The fact that “it is impossible for God to lie” is our assurance that all the promises that are written in God’s Word, will come to pass. God is not like us humans, who don’t live up to what we say, but tend to lie if it will benefit us. God’s Word is what created this whole world and universe (Genesis 1), and by His Words everything was created. All things are held together by His Word (Colossians 1:17), and if God ever lied, the whole universe would come apart, and we would self-destruct. Science has found that the nucleus of an atom, contains all positive elements, which should repel each other, yet something holds them together – God’s Word. When mankind split some of the unstable atoms like uranium, we get an atomic explosion, when the atom is split and the power of God’s Word is released – Wow! We can take comfort in the fact that God’s Word is truth (John 17:17) and all His promises to us will come to pass – if we cooperate with Him. Praise God for His integrity!
