Daily Devotional

January 10

8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. - 1 John 4:8-10 (KJV)

What a wonderful truth – that God is love. If you don’t love others with an unconditional kind of love, then this is saying that you don’t know God. If you find it impossible to love others, then you need to question whether you were ever really born again, as love is a fruit of the Spirit that you get upon salvation (Galatians 5:22-23), and God comes to live in you, and He is love. This verse is saying that knowing God will cause you to love others, not that by loving others you will know God.

God loved us enough to come die for us (John 3:16) when we were still sinners – what a perfect example of love. By doing so, God has brought us back to life with Him, by giving us the born again Spirit of Jesus to live in us, and bringing us back into fellowship with Him (eternal life) (John 17:3).

This is the definition of love, in that God loved us so much, that Jesus came and died for us, and atoned for all our sins, while we were not loving Him. Us humans tend to love those that love us first. God loved us before we loved Him, and He loves all His creation, whether they love Him or not. Wow – now that is love! The only way us humans can love with the (AGAPE) God’s kind of love, is to first get born again, then die to ourselves, and let Christ live through us. Human love will not come close to allowing us to live like Christ, that is why you must get born again, and get the love of God living inside you. If you truly want to live for God, then love others as you love yourself, and show that you love Jesus by doing so (John 13:34). Praise God!

Thanks for the comment - fight often just refers to enduring through, and not always physical fighting. Love, Pastor Joe.

fair enough. I'm not intentionally contrary but full of self loathing so it often seems that way.
