34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. - Matt 10:34-36 (KJV)
Many preachers teach that Jesus came to bring peace among men, and that is what the Angels were proclaiming at His birth (Luke 2:14), but that is not what they were saying. Jesus came to bring peace from God toward man, not peace among men (Romans 5:1). The Gospel of Christ brings division among mankind, as this verse says. The Gospel, when preached correctly, will always either cause repentance or rejection, as shown by the life of Jesus. For this reason, the Gospel many times causes division within families, friends, and churches, as the true Gospel of Christ is powerful, and you either accept it, or reject it and get offended by it (Matthew 24:10). Jesus was known as the “Prince of Peace”, but that is referring to this peace between God and mankind (John 17:3), not among men.
If you are a disciple of Jesus, then you can be sure that you will have peace with God, but not with many of this world (Matthew 10:24-25). Even Jesus, the perfect preacher, was not accepted by most of his own people (John 1:11). If we stay at peace with the Lord, we can be sure that we will not have peace from the world, as they are opposite of each other. His own family and friends rejected Jesus, and we will be also, if we live the Christian life. This world is controlled by the devil, and we gave it to him, so what can we expect, as he comes only to steal, kill and destroy us (John 10:10). It is us humans that have given control of this world to the devil, and praise God that we, who have been born again, are redeemed from our destruction through the blood of Jesus, and the mercy of God! Thank you Jesus!
