18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. - Prov 29:18 (KJV)
If you do not have a vision, or goal, for your life, then you will perish. This is saying that if you have no hope of the future, no positive imagination, no God given plans, for your life, then you will perish, as without a hope for the future, your life has no meaning at all. When the bible uses the word hope, it is referring to our positive imagination (Romans 8:24), and hope is the beginning of faith, so it is very important to our Christian life, as without faith you can not please God (Hebrews 11:6).
Knowing what the law of God says, and living a holy life in accordance with the principals of the law, will make you happy, as it will please God. Under the New Covenant we are not required to live by the Old Testament Law, with all its rules and regulations, but if you are born again, and letting Christ live through you, it will cause you to live holy, as He is holy (1 Peter 1:16). We do not obey the rules of the law, and do works of the law, to gain anything from God, but by living a holy life, we keep Satan from coming in and stealing, killing and destroying us (John 10:10). We must obey the commands of Jesus to assure our eternal salvation (Hebrews 5:9). God does not look on our actions anymore, to see how holy we are, but He is a Spirit (John 4:24), and looks upon our new born again spirits, and sees us as Holy as Jesus is – Wow! Praise God for His wonderful gift to us His children!
