13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; 14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. - 2 Peter 1:13-14 (KJV)
Peter had been reminding the saints in the previous verses, of all the teaching that he had given them, and the truths of God’s Word. Peter is stressing how important it is to remember what we have been taught, and the human mind does tend to forget what we don’t get put into our hearts. Peter is saying that as long as he is in this body (tabernacle), he felt it necessary to remind them of all they had been taught. Praise God that Peter and all the old apostles wrote down scriptures that we might learn from. We all need to be stirred up by hearing the Word over and over, as that is what it takes for us to stay in the faith necessary to persevere, and keep our salvation.
Peter knew that he was coming to the end of his life, and would soon die (put off this my tabernacle), and Jesus did tell Peter that he would die a martyr’s death (John 21:18-19), and Peter knew it was near. Tradition say’s that Peter was crucified, and he asked to be crucified upside down, as he did not feel worthy to be crucified in the same manner as Jesus was. Just think, that we, who have been born again, have the same faith as Peter had (2 Peter 1:1), and that Jesus had (Galatians 5:22-23), and Peter’s faith was so powerful that when his shadow fell on people they got healed (Acts 5:15). If us Christians would just use all this faith we have been given, and get rid of all the unbelief in our hearts (Matthew 17:20), then we could raise the dead, heal the sick, cast out the demons, and create a revival that wouldn’t end. Praise God, let’s do it!
