OK the sound waves are not muffled by moisture in the air changing the tone, so it's vibrations are more unchanged in traveling a large distance, perfect sense to me. Thanks
Yea, maybe. But in summer + and an RH in the single digits, I’ve never noticed the same effect. In those conditions, the visual waves get distorted tho. You know, the shimmer and the water mirages like most folks notice down road on the hot highway.
You also have to consider the fact that everything like trees "no leaves" and the ground are not soft like in warm weather but like stone at such a low temperature to instead of absorbing or dampening the vibrations they would reflect them fully or even add another tone to the sound from reflecting the sound and the material plus angle of reflecting would likely be why you said it had that waa waa pedal effect with fuzz.
It's the different tones all arriving at the same time or MS apart that are reflected off surfaces and object that would normally not reflect but absorb sound at a warmer temperature when they are soft not hard so the sound would lower in tone then but in the winter it's almost the original sound plus just barely lower tone from reflected sounds depending on the shape of the object it hits.
