Fucking idiots in California are biosed since LA is basically a desert that man has pumped a ton of water into it so of course those idiots without perspective would think that. Let them live near the canadian border for a year in the winter like in Montana and then see what their view is when it's cold enough to die walking down the street to a friends house. One slip and a sprained ankle and a most painful death of lying down in subzero weather feeling your feet and hands slowly dying knowing you have to crawl to some home and hope they are home to let you in or just lie there and die on the side of the road. Not every death is from thirst or a day like living in New Mexico and it's over a hundred outside so you'll get a sunburn and slowly cook to death, cold is likely more painful since it's a more intense death in a shorter period not days but maybe hours unless your wet than an hour or so and your dead and thankful the pain is gone.
