Air pollution is an interesting phenomena, since the earth's rotation (weather patterns) place the effects in a different location (usually eastward) than their origin. The United States, having no "neighbors" east or west, who are affected by pollution (except for pollutants which, due to their low molecular density, rise high enough into the atmosphere to affect global patterns), makes it a good country to isolate and study.
