Leeches have legitimate medical use, their saliva contains potent anti-coagulant chemicals that keep blood flowing and help prevent clotting. This can help in a wide variety of conditions, especially wound care and post micro-surgical procedures.

Modern medicine Pharma tends to deride them as Dark Age Blood-letting because leeches and Hirudin, the peptide produced by leech saliva, are not patentable, and therefore not profitable.

Don't confuse old medical and surgical techniques with bullshit. If they were practiced for hundreds of years, there was probably a reason for it.

It is newly patented and profit driven techniques, flooded by PR, that are the snake oil of our time.

Agree. There were thousands of home remedies that we have lost due to caving in to promises from big pharma. You constantly hear shit like 'its unproven' but thats only because the people who have authority to prove them correct dont have the incentive. Its amazing what medicinal benefits plants have
