Is pulse a different coin or a different type of wallet or something different entirely? I'm still a bit confused. I guess I am kinda an idiot.

It's a hard fork of ethereum, so it will be on it's own chain.

Pulse will be the gas token on pulse network, similar to how ethereum is the gas token on the ethereum network.
