pour your alcohol in a jar with a lid. (this can also be done in its container but its easier to see the layers in clear glass). pour in some salt and shake the shit out of it for a few minutes. keep pouring in salt and shaking until no more salt will dissolve and let it sit until the heavier salt water solution settles to the bottom. then you just pour off your top alcohol layer and it should be over 90% pure at this point. i usually just buy it at 90% but last night they were out and only had 70% and it burns like shit in my alcohol lamp so this trick comes in handy sometimes.

nice, i would still like that style... tech, it is illegal here to distill ethanol, unless for farm use, or water & essential oils. If someone came by or a cop seen it in my garage, not a good time. I would have some explaining to do.

yeah the taller column the better, more neutral product. the highest i ever got was 97% I was shocked... I should find the picture for you

well, this one says 94% but I have hit 97 before

wow i cant believe that thick glass broke like that must have been a mess. thats the proof i need to get. i think i can get it up there if i move my condenser to before the bend. it should lose more water down lower rather than having some of the vapor make it over the bend before it refluxes up top. well see what happens.
