I'm considering replacing a rear patio sliding door with a hinged door with sidelights. I'm considering an outswing patio door because it'd work much better for walking from my kitchen --> covered patio than a door swinging inward into the kitchen. Also I hate sliding doors.
I know that outswings are uncommon for residential properties due to the modest security risk of having hinges on the outside, but dont see a particular concern in my case since:
1) The dog is always here, and the dog is loud enough to alert anyone in the vicinity if Methhead Mcgee tries to pull the hinges off a door. Or the doggo would just barrel out the dog door and eat the would-be burglar.
2) Someone is always home, and breaking into a home occupied by FAFO is universally regarded as unhealthy.
What am I missing aside from security concerns? Are there insulation issues or problems getting a good seal on an outswing door I should consider? Something else?
