The flat section obviously, and 2-3 feet up the sloped to be able to do a proper tie-in with the sloped section. What sort of roofing is on the sloped part?

just asphalt shingles; 4:12 slope IIRC

Easy to do a tie-in with those. To add to previous comment, depending on condition of the flat roof decking and how many layers of roof on it you might be able to just go over the existing, saving some labor $.
