Save on labor, happens when people "flip" houses and in low income areas where the resident owners don't have the $ or the slumlord owners don't give a shit. It's against code everywhere to do a 3rd roof, and in some locales a 2nd. But if you hire three chucks in a truck to do it on the weekend, no code enforcement.

I agree, even though it is a source of work for us. Those multi-layer jobs often have a lot of bad wood, and that gets added to contract price at a cost plus basis.
