When it comes to US politics, on the angloweb, I can confirm that I always heard about "rumors" of electoral fraud on a mass scale in the US since the past 15 years at least, it's always been part of the conversation

The real difference between then and now, is that, before people could hardly tell if it made a significant difference in the election results, that's where the conversation always revolved around ultimately, but pretty much everyone agreed that there were instances of fraud here and there. The question mark was always around the real impact in the end. Is it just a recurring phenomenon with little to no real impact on the final result, or is it fucking massive?

The status quo was on "little to no real impact on the final result", until proven otherwise of course...

Now we have a much clearer idea of the scale, and that's not saying the cheat increased or decreased over time, it's just that now we have more and more compiled data, more people paying attention it's no longer a "conspiracy theory" fringe type of stuff, it's pretty serious mainstream shit now
