Same as in America, but for different reasons. Being dependent on cheap Russian energy was the price for being competitive with China. That was never a problem, Russia delivered gas in the coldest days of the cold war and would deliver tomorrow, if Germany would open Nord Stream 2 and pay in roubles. But the German politicians will not do that because high energy prices are part of the European Green Deal that forces the industry to move into China. Same in the US.
