You could set up a coordinate system that would make the earth "flat" (roughly 2D).

This is all i can come up with for how someone could take this seriously...

This exists dude...

Let me explain. The earth is a basketball. Imagine you take your palms and push in as hard as you can. That is gravity. Therefore the poles are technically off the ground, and this rock were on is slightly wider in the middle.

That's basic. We really know this mfer is a ball of play doh and its much more complicated than that but we will stick high level.

So we have a lat long system and several measurement systems but the standard for measuring lat long is WGS84 aka EPSG 4326.

So this is for an ellipsoid. So the more important measurement and projections over distance become the worse it gets when you flatten it to 2D, or an XY planar map.

This conversion is EPSG3857 where lat lon go X Y. This is what maps are doing in the api background, and why a JTAC is using an 8-10 digit 3857 coordinate on a LOCALIZED battle map... Yes, guess what? Within the USA we regionally measure our states I.e in feet AND meters and what certain states come up with is going to be off what is standardized.

Tldr GIS is interesting and the earth isn't flat but the maps are.

It gets worse than that too.... Datum? Anchoring to a ref point in space? Plate tectonics? Shifting poles?

Thank you for your reply, I know geometry. I was just saying that this might have been used as a jumping off point for people to be misled.

Most flat earthers realize it is what the bible describes. Entrenching positions.
