They use very little power and are small so they are great for: - Torrent downloader. Schedule to run when you sleep / are not home

  • Kodi media player - Use incursion + debrid service or go the sonarr / radarr route to auto download / update your media library. Or just use it to play file you already have

  • Home automation - turn stuff on / off or monitor it

  • Run centralized web filter / firewall / etc

  • Use Cacti for SNMP based monitoring / logging and display in pretty graphs

  • Get more powerful SOC (RPI3 or Odroid or similar) and run a desktop on it?

  • Broke it? So what? Just flash the image again and start over.

Edit:

I'll add a couple more I forgot:

Digital signage - Just set it up to run a slideshow script a boot and you have digital signage box!

IP Cam server - can get / setup / run free zoneminder and run all your IP Cams off it for office / home monitoring or surveillance.

Forgot to add software testing / development. I don't do programming so not on my personal list. But yeah, can do just about anything on a PI as long as you can find the arm packages or know how to compile yourself.

I’m pretty busy at the moment, but I’ll definitely write a tutorial for those interested in testing Throat.
