As I understand it, even you have a hard copy that you but, you still need to install it via steam.
Since I don't have an OS capable of even running steam at this point, the point is moot.
Of course, there's always that ship that sails from the bay...I'm sure it goes to Tamriel's harbors at times.

At the end of the day Skyrim is a dumbed down Oblivion and not really worth the time playing. You would be better off spending your time playing civ5.
