I can understand laptops (expensive) and other things like foodservices and whatnot - but basic office supplies? Unless people were stealing the stuff and taking it home (and they may have been,) a company cutting back or removing basic supplies bespeaks of deeper problems than just "cost cutting."
I've been at a few places that did stuff like this, and they weren't long for this world. Not saying this is Google's fate, but something is wrong that they aren't saying.

No idea, to be honest. Just that The Money may not be flowing like they want us to think it is.
Total smokescreen bullshit. The perks the give have a massive price tag, but the salaries themselves are the problem. I doubt all the shit they mention is even 2% of a salary.
