For those of you who don't know shit about IT or databases, Microsoft SQL Server is a database engine that enables storage of data in a structured manner that is easily queried to get meaningful results from the data. SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS for short) is the tool that ships with Microsoft SQL Server that enables developers to create databases, query the results and manage the system. SSMS is a standard tool for MS SQL Server. It installs as part of the full installation of the MS SQL Server product. It is only suspicious to those who don't know anything about MS SQL Server or what it does. There are plenty of reasons to have SSMS installed on the same machine as the SQL Server database engine, such as scheduling backups or performing routine maintenance to ensure the database is healthy and operating normally.

Also, for your further education, SSMS does not need to be installed on the same machine as the SQL Server engine because it can connect to the engine remotely from another computer. SSMS allows for connections over the same network or over the internet or VPN connected network. From one computer with SSMS installed, a developer or database administrator can manage hundreds of SQL Server engine instances spread across many, many servers. That remote connection would enable data to be viewed, manipulated and even deleted without having the SSMS software installed on the same computer as the engine. Your ignorance of this is making you sound retarded as the presence of SSMS doe not mean tampering occurred nor does its absence mean tampering could not happen. You don't even need SSMS to change or delete data since you can log into SQL Server engine with the SQL command prompt and do it all there. That SQL prompt is always installed with the database server product so it can always be used to manipulate data.

Stop being stupid. This is not a smoking gun. You have to prove more than the existence of SSMS on the computer to prove there was tampering. The SQL database logs can show tampering, but logs can be deleted so that's not proof either. Learn about the software before jumping to retarded conclusions. You don't know what you are talking about and you are just making yourselves look like fools to those of us who use SQL Server and SSMS everyday.

You're still being stupid. You think that it's a smoking gun because SSMS was installed on the voting machine, but the fact that SSMS can connect remotely means that it is not necessary to have it installed locally to perform edits. It can be installed on a laptop and access SQL Server without being detected. It can also be removed from the laptop and you would never know it.

The article says it was locally installed on the same machine as the database engine. That's the point of this and other articles like it. You're a fucking retard. You don't even need SSMS. You can use a myriad of other programs, including writing your own programs, to connect to and manipulate the data in a database. I do that all the time as a programmer. You don't get it, Qtard.
