I don't think you are familiar with what's going on in Cyprus, or even the Muslim world, which is not a single entity.
In any case, the British occupation ensured chaos so that the island would never unite with Greece or even gain any kind of independence, and now entrance into the sphere of Israel influence somehow came out of nowhere.
