Wow the ibanez is priced really well. I can’t imagine what would make me unhappy with either one with the level of knowledge I have now. Maybe down the line but it seems like as you learn you probably always want a better guitar. Honestly if you think it’s an okay guitar I’ll probably just order it when I get home.
Either one will suit your needs and give you an "okay" starting experience.
You're not going to sound like Hendrix with that amp - but the guitars are both playable and the amps will do just fine for someone starting out. You'll probably get better sound (from the amp) with the Yamaha but the guitars will be pretty similar in quality - perfectly playable or Musician's Friend wouldn't put it back on the shelf.
I trust that company VERY well. I recently spent a small six figure sum with them (when I outfitted the band) and was even able to secure a 20% discount. I've used them for distance orders for decades. I trust them that much.
Also, check their Martin prices - they have some D series for the $1k region, or used to.
I will definitely do that, maybe I can pickup the Martin not for this Christmas but maybe the next one. I do appreciate all the advice and pointing me in a good direction for getting started I probably wouldn’t be doing it at if it weren’t for all the articles you’ve posted.
Excellent - but remember it's a lot of work to get good enough to even play a song or two. It's not easy but it is fun - and it creates even more fun when you start getting the hang of it.
