you picked up a 650i at the factory? That has got to be a good story.
It's not.
It might seem like it should be - but it's not.
See, I was forced to keep it to 150 km/h for the first 1500 km. You have to do that to let the engine break in.
It was not nearly as exciting as it should have been, and it's not nearly as cool a story as it could be. I finished up my 1500 miles, watched 'em load it on a ship, flew back, and like two weeks later it was delivered on a truck from the dealer in NH. It was remarkably underwhelming.
Really? I always imagined it would be a real adventure to do that, buy a BMW brand new go to germany and pick it up drive the Nuremberg ring. I guess if you can't really open it up that would make sense but I guess the dream is better than reality.
Nurburgring*.
I've driven on it. You can go rent exotics, take lessons, ride with a co-driver, etc... It's not all that expensive, plan on about $10k for a week of really living it up - you can do it for a lot less, however. But, you can rent exotics for blocks of time.
There was no point to putting my car on that track. Pushing above 150 km/h would potentially damage the engine and I was only there for five days, with the first two days being taken up by visiting the factor and watching my car get completed and then watching the tests on the following day.
