Just the first one was all I managed and I had to watch him do it probably 20 times before I could even get started, I'm really very bad at this whole guitar thing. I will not quit. I just don't do that.

Of course your bad. In fact, you suck at it. That's to be expected.

When your fingers start to behave, you'll find you improve pretty rapidly for a while - then you'll plateau a few times, but we'll address that when we get there.

I seem to recall trying to explain this to you, before you even got one! ;-)

It's not nearly as easy as it looks. It's damned difficult, and even more difficult to do it well. It's gonna be a while before you're learning Metallica, and even longer before you're playing Metallica well enough for people to be able to tell that you're actually playing Metallica.

But...

You'll get there in time. You'll get there with practice. Just keep putting your hours in and you'll get there. You'll probably want to give up, many times. If you don't give up, you'll get there.

You have said almost exactly this at least once before, You are also correct I do suck but I can laugh at myself so I'm okay with it.

I think I'll get it soon enough it gets a little easier every time I pick it up. It seems like a lot of it is memorization and muscle memory but thats just a theory at this point.

I don't do give up, even when I probably should, I still refuse. Its just not something I can do.

A large part of it is muscle memory.

Eventually, you'll find that your fingers just do it. You'll sometimes even find that they do it best when you don't think about it.

'Tis the reason I emphasize learning scales (and some chords) at this point in your education.

When you're done learning the natural scale in the open position, I'll suggest you figure out how to play it at the 12th fret.

To play it at the 12th fret, just remember that the 12th fret is now the same note as it was when you were playing it in the open position.

So, it'd go like:

E: 12 13 15

A: 12 14 15

D: 12 14 15

(etc...)

You'll be able to figure it out.
