The many fears around acid are mostly unfounded. I've eaten more acid than a dozen other acid eaters - combined.

If you want to get emotionally invested in your pick, get some sort of display case and put it in there - now. Make sure it locks and you throw away the key. You will run out of picks and want to use it, which is where you'll end up breaking it or losing it.

In a year, you will almost certainly not have that pick. I'll be a little surprised if you still have it in a month. You might be able to keep it, if you put it into something that locks and throw away the key. Maybe... It might just go missing from inside the locked display case or, better, safe that you buried ten feet underground.

You can get a pick punch, and make your own picks out of a variety of materials. I've never felt compelled to use mine, other than to have played with it for a little while. However, some folks swear by them and fashion picks out of a variety of plastic substances - such as credit cards. I prefer a much, much thinner pick. They sell a variety of materials to feed your pick punch, should that be a route you choose to go.

My pick punch sits in a box, I am pretty sure. I don't actually know where it is. To me, it's wasted money. But, some folks really like 'em. You may be one of those people who likes one. If I knew where mine was, I'd offer to send it to you. They're not expensive. In fact, I may have already given mine away. I will not be replacing it.

I've long since conceded that I'll be buying picks for the rest of my life. That's why I buy them in bulk. I literally buy the boxes of picks that they sell to the individual music stores. You can buy 'em by the 1,000 lot, if you want. At a show, I'll go through as few as 30 and as many as 100. However, many of them are tossed to the audience. I toss 'em into the audience after just a few songs and I have pockets full of 'em, plus some clipped to my mic stand.
