Oh I don't need the 10$ at least not yet. However I was pretty damn sure you wouldn't take it, I was more attempting to make a joke. I really need to get on setting up paypal donations I had something I thought worked and then someone donated 10$ and it didn't go through, I ensured paypal returned the money too them and I haven't really dived into it again as I've had other things I've been working on. I should probably find someone who knows how to do it.
You can just use their interface to generate a donate link, as well as 'buy now' and 'subscribe' links.
Donate has a bunch of options, including setting a minimum. Buy now has a ton of options, and can be interfaced with a bunch of other things. Subscribing lets you do things like monthly billing and can even be tied into your own API to enable whatever functionality into it that you wanted.
And yeah - I figured it was a joke.
Also, hmm...
If you connect this site with PayPal, and shit goes pear-shaped, PayPal is going to cancel you and possibly fuck you over by doing shit like refunding all money that is in your account and has not yet been transferred to your bank account.
Funding sites such as this has been shown to be problematic in the past and, well, PayPal is not known for supporting free speech.
Your options are few and I'm not actually able to confidently advise you. Stripe is known to cancel payment processing for sites and activities that they don't support. Patreon isn't even remotely an option.
I believe someone set up a Hatereon - but I don't know anything about it, or them.
There's crypto-currencies, of all types. It's actually pretty easy to facilitate that and there's a variety of services that will make it easy for you to implement such.
Would you like me to take a look and see what options are available? I almost certainly won't get to it until next week, and it's likely to require a block of time, but I have no problem throwing that block of time into researching this - and may find that research useful for my own needs.
I don't actually need donations, but I'd like to be able to get the sites self-funded and the payment automated. I'd like to eventually be able to figure out a way to pass them on to a community of other people and the next generation of passionate people.
So, researching this will possibly benefit me and my doing so may result in my being able to offer advise from an informed position.
Also, feel free to use that email address that I gave you earlier.
I don't know if you noticed, but earlier today I was indicating a willingness to help you prepare for your inevitable press interactions. I'm fairly confident that you will, assuming the site continues on course, have to interact with the press.
While I'm not a lawyer, and you should hire a lawyer, I'm willing to offer layman's advice which you can apply weight to as you deem fit. I've had significant interactions with the press and it's my opinion that you should start preparing to deal with the press sooner rather than later. It's also my opinion that it's very likely that you will, eventually, find yourself encountering the press.
For this, you should have a lawyer. You do not have a lawyer. You probably can't afford a good lawyer. That leaves you with me - and whoever else you're willing to reach out to for advice. As your not-lawyer, I'd recommend weighting the advice offered carefully and consider the sources of the advice when such does happen.
You are not in, nor should you ever be in - for this site, any criminal legal issues. You're quite likely to eventually find someone who tries to make running this site difficult and they may well use the courts as a tool to pressure you or close your site down. It's probably a good idea to minimize that risk and have things like prepared statements for the media.
I should also read your terms of service, acceptable use policy, and privacy policy. I'm more or less writing some of this for myself, as a bit of a mental checklist. I've decided that I should be a not-your-lawyer and take a look around. I'm really quite certain that you will eventually face scrutiny and publicity.
I'm kind of baffled, mystified really, as to why Putt isn't getting more publicity - but I assume it's a legitimate effort on his part to decline comments and avoid much interaction with the community.
I did find all that I read several guides on the subject and in theory had a working link, but something just wasn't configured properly. I am very aware of the difficulty in funding a site like this I'm very thankful its still a manageable cost at this point. Enough that it isn't an issue at the moment.
I have several crypto addresses already, I'll probably need a few more and to keep track of them all better than I currently do.
If you want to dive into it and research it I'd certainly appreciate the help. You seem to be far smarter a dude than myself so I'd bank on you being able to find a better solution than myself.
I will feel free to use it then, I don't often email, if you get an email from me its probably an emergency or I don't want it seen on another medium.
I imagine someday it'll happen and I'm probably woefully under qualified to interact with them. I would welcome help on the subject. I've considered many possible ways of handling it.
I've reached out to some lawyers I have done work for, for advice regarding the site and most of them have little if any advise due to they are just not those kind of lawyers, I've learned over the years there are a metric ton of different kinds of lawyers. I can't afford one at all at the moment and thats the sad truth.
I can't imagine what kind of prepared statement I would have, I have no idea what they will ask or say, so how could I prepare a statement?
I know I won't get into criminal trouble I've gone to great lengths to ensure that will not happen, I know I will face scrutiny and I hope not publicity this place isn't about me its about free speech.
I appreciate the advice as always and I accept your offer to be my not-lawyer
I have to imagine that puttitout isn't getting attention due to not wanting it, he got some way back when voat became voat. Its how I know his real name.
As the formatting here sucks, hit me up with an email when you get a chance.
Seriously, I hate the formatting here. When I press "Enter" that should mean it's a new line. Instead, it keeps on going and keeps it on the same line, unless I use the enter button twice.
I absolutely love breaking spaces between my paragraphs, but being able to put things on consecutive lines would be a pretty damned nice option. I can't put ASCII tab or even format instructions for anything. Not even quote or code markdown work.
It's fucking dumb! LOL
That's pretty much my major gripe. I'd love to be able to use a more richly featured editor and would probably write more. Not being able to do single lines really, really fucking blows donkey dicks.
Then again, I'm not sure I should be writing more. I already write a ton.
