Today, we begin a new chapter of the Friday Night Guitar Thread. It may seem drastic, but it's just another bump in the road. The FNGT will live on, as it is greater than any one of us and any one website. Come share some music that you made. Come talk musicianship and the things that surround it. Share the tracks you finished, those you're working on, and maybe some from your archives.

Remember, many of you will be new to Poal. As yet, you're still guests - until you truly participate. Let us act like it. Let us act in a way that makes Poal glad to have us and that makes their regulars feel welcome in our threads.

Finally...

Instead of lamenting the past, let's look forward to our future. We, unlike many, had the infrastructure to get the messages out and had a place prepared for this eventuality. Well, that time has come and we have a new home. Let's ride 'er 'til the wheels fall off.

Welcome, looking forward to listening while I try to get the chat server fixed.

[–] 6 pts

Thanks for having us on Poal. I'm hoping that when you can get all the fires put out, in the future you will let us hear how you've been doing with your guitar.

[–] 2 pts

SHHHHHHH don't tell everyone I've been slacking while I put out fires.

[–] 1 pt

Ah... No more 30 second wait...

That slowed me down in the old threads.

Plus, I can do all the "throws horns" that I want and it doesn't bitch at me!

[–] 2 pts

LOL I don't generally chat, but good luck!

It's a good time of the year to have the first thread here.

Thanks for having us!

[–] 4 pts

No problem looking forward to the music because that’s what it’s about!

[–] 2 pts

LOL I've also got some Linux content that I've been working on, so I may start dropping that in the Linux sub - or I may make a new Linux sub as that mod seems fairly inactive.

Reposting from the voat thread yesterday:

Here's my , performed on technopipes set to "smallpipes" sound.

And here's my salute to Voat. on the great highland bagpipe.

[–] 3 pts

Didn't get a chance to respond to you in the voat thread, but the technopipes is really intriguing. Ever plug it into a guitar effects chain? I know a few noise musicians that would love to play around with one of those

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

I haven't tried running it through any effects. I saw a video once where someone was running a different kind of electronic bagpipe through some effects. That was type is basically a complete bagpipe, though, mine is just a little stick with a headphone jack in it. Allegedly you can record and transfer midi files with mine, but I've never actually tried.

[–] 2 pts

I played this at my buddy Verles house last night and he really liked the sound of the pipes

[–] 2 pts

Great to see you made it!

[–] [deleted] 4 pts

Thanks! This all feels so familiar, I made my account here and joined the fngt during the great voat outage two years ago. I'm glad you did the thread last night to see it out the same way.

[–] 2 pts

It seemed fitting to do one last FNGT.

Rather than being pessimistic, I try to think of it as being a good thing because we get to have two guitar threads.

Chat still works on preview Voat, or did earlier. PMs still worked as well.

[–] 1 pt

Thank you for the bagpipe piece, the most horendous instrument for the most horendous moment of 2020. It was playing as I was posting my final glorious "Niggerfaggot" before ravishing my liquor cabinet.

Hello Guys! Still finishing stuff for work but here you go, simple and straight to the point:

Hope you like it: https://www.bandlab.com/sguevar/no-title-4f63f48d?revId=8c9053b8-f846-eb11-a607-0050f28a2802

No title came to my mind for it. Hope you fellaz like it.

[–] 3 pts

This is great man, very atmospheric

Love that "Everything Is Not Lost" cover you posted also, that little arpeggio part in there when it picks up is slick

[–] 3 pts

I see you made it. Welcome to our new home. I've (kinda) been here since day one, but haven't participated much after the first year of Poal.

[–] 2 pts

Cool shit, Tico.

[–] 2 pts

This is different. Sounds cool. Lots of voices in there!

[–] 2 pts

That's really cool. There's a movie called Barabas that has a musical score that sounds really similar to this. Love those sad type of tracks.

[–] 2 pts

Interesting, a Gregorian chant inspired acapella tune. Very nice.

[–] [deleted] 3 pts
[–] 3 pts

This is cool man, and really nicely delivered, it's kinda in the realm of Moondog

[–] 2 pts

Is that your writing or someone else's?

[–] 6 pts

Found this in my back pages A song I wrote called Kickin Ass And Takin Names https://youtu.be/lf5r98LJu-I.

[–] 1 pt

Santa! Woo hoo! Great song!

[–] 1 pt

My secret identity shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Thanks for the kind words

[–] 1 pt

It's great to hear that again!

LOL I thought it sounded familiar so I checked. You've shared it before.

I absolutely don't mind listening to it again. I quite like the song.

Also, my memory is such that I have to check the archives to find out if we've recorded and shared the song before.

[–] 3 pts

I guess I'm going to have to search my files a little bit better.. I again blame my loss of memory on "old timers "

[–] 1 pt

Ain't nothing wrong with sharing a track a second time. They do it on the radio.

[–] 1 pt

The FNGT site has a fair search function, just remember to use your old name on the Voat archives (before tonight) or the track name for all.

[–] 0 pt

Wow great voice and great song! Excellent work unclecarl!

[–] 6 pts (edited )

Hello goats//. ...euhh, poats? ... I've got a Takamine acoustic & a Gibson black beauty & some Mexican knockoff bass guitar, but I haven't really played with those in a long time, preferring instead to throw my life away on Warzone, or the occasional logic pro project(which I mostly dont end up finishing & instead start a bunch new project ideas), with some great plugins(one of them being supreme drummer 2)

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

Awesome, I liked it a lot

[–] 2 pts

Nice tones in here, really got that glassy icy winterland vibe nailed. No better way to honor the solstice than with music!

[–] 1 pt

I gotta remember to click with the scroll wheel to open in a new tab. No embedded SoundCloud on this site.

It's got a nice laid back feel to your music, along with the electronic component. Is that a drum machine or is it really drums?

[–] 2 pts

Embed works for me on Android with the brave browser. This drum is a loop with ~13% match to my tempo. I used it because it makes the drums impossible to match in real life 🤣

[–] 1 pt

Ah, it was a loop. They had a rather authentic sound and I couldn't be positive.

It's amazing how far tech has come.

What do you mix with?

[–] 1 pt

Some serious Enya vibes off of this one. I dig it.

[–] 1 pt

Sounds of enya have always been at the top of the list for me. Enigma too. Maybe if they smoked double the amount of pot they usually did, they would end up sounding more like my piece

[–] 0 pt

Soothing and tranquil, thanks for posting this. Very professionally done.

[–] 2 pts

Thank you. I think most of my projects will end up more laid back because I'm not a decent piano player. But things can be calm and beautiful at same to too. Only reason it sounds 'professional' because I've got OCD for sound, maybe as a result of too much patience for it. Other aspects of life tick me off quite quickly though so I guess I'm weird that way .

[–] 6 pts
[–] 2 pts

That's real good groove. Played the guitar real good.

[–] 2 pts

Good job on it. I like your message too

[–] 1 pt

Thank you, and thanks for listening!

[–] 2 pts

Vintage crazy_eyes. Merry Christmas man.

[–] 2 pts

Merry Christmas to you and your as well! Glad to see you made it!

[–] 2 pts

Heck yeah. I tried to resist but the call of the guitar cabal was to great to refrain.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

Just listening to this, I love the beat!

[–] 2 pts

Hell yeah was hoping to hear this one again, just a cool energy to it. Merry Christmas!

[–] 2 pts

Dude that was excellent haha. Good stuff crazy

[–] 2 pts

Thanks Joey. When ever I see you're new username I just want to say WOAH

[–] 1 pt

That’s pretty much why I chose the name lol. I can shit post in Q subs or something every time somethings HAPPENING!!!!!

[–] 1 pt
[–] 6 pts

I wrote this song yesterday and got a mix put together so I could share tonight.

Homeward Bound:

https://soundclick.com/r/s8fmdo

[–] 3 pts

Good shit man. I'm still waiting for the xylophone inclusion however!

[–] 1 pt

Haha! I forgot about our “theme song.” I’ll need to revisit that and do a proper recording... and still need to find a xylophone

[–] 3 pts

Man you got a great pipes. Pipes like that don't grow on trees. This is so in your wheelhouse.

[–] 2 pts

Thanks hit, yeah it’s nice to write a song that can easily just flow without strain or much effort.

[–] 3 pts

Appreciate the special mix just for us. You've got some real skills man, seriously hope you're working professionally with that voice. Sax sounds great in there, nicely chosen

[–] 3 pts

Thanks bro, glad you made it over. My main band is actually technical death metal and I just play guitar. A couple of the guys from that band join me in a trio where we play this kind of stuff, but it’s part time; usually festivals in the summer type of thing.

[–] 3 pts

Would be stoked to hear your other project sometime, the majority of my band experience has been metal-related so I can also appreciate that double life you're describing. Side projects have to erupt or else something has gone wrong!

[–] 2 pts

Great to see you made it! There's some pretty sweet sustain in a couple of sections in that track. Thanks for bringing the tunes!

[–] 3 pts

This was the first song I tried recording saxophone on too. I’m pretty happy with it for a quick mix. I’m sure I’ll tweak it endlessly over the next few weeks haha

[–] 2 pts

I do not play a sax. I should learn how. My fingers are pretty good at doing what I tell them to do, so I may pick it up easier than some others. It'd almost certainly not be easy, but I have fairly well-behaved fingers.

[–] 2 pts

Wow it's really nice.

[–] 6 pts

Hi guys, I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas.

I'm new here on Poal, but it seems to be a likable place. Similar in passion to the site that hung me out to dry today after 6 1/2 years. This is a song I posted over there a few months ago.

[–] 3 pts

Hey man that's really nice!

[–] 1 pt

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. It's dedicated to Jacob Underfoot, a very good boy who sat at my feet as I wrote it and recorded it. May he rest in peace.

[–] 2 pts

This one rocks. Cool as hell! Glad you made it!

[–] 2 pts

Good to see you here as well!

[–] 2 pts

You made it over, I see.

And, yeah, Poal is kinda similar to Voat in many ways - except the admins are more active.

[–] 2 pts

That's a good one, glad you're here.

[–] 1 pt

Excellent jam

[–] 5 pts

My Son James, me and Mark playing one of my Sons original songs I Oughta Be not a Christmas song but still a good en. https://youtu.be/sl2GVRC7J2E

[–] 3 pts

Great stuff as always Carl.

[–] 1 pt

Thanks for the kind words, it's most appreciated

[–] 2 pts

Nice vibes nice tune great sounding overall

[–] 1 pt

Thank you for the kind words, it's most appreciated

[–] 2 pts

Yay, you're here. Is that your son honking on bobo, he's pretty damn good. But of course your kid would be. Hope you had a blessed Christmas.

[–] 2 pts

Yes COF that's my son James, he's written a lot of really good songs. I'll see if I can round some of the videos we recorded at events we've played. We had one of the best Christmas's I've had in a long time. I hope you had a great one as well.

[–] 1 pt

It was going to be better until I found out my eldest and her hubby gots the plague on Christmas Eve. So far they only have mild symptoms (tested positive) and hopefully won't get too bad. The other kids are coming over tomorrow so we'll have one then and then another for my daughter and her kids family when they're well.

[–] 1 pt

Cool. Thats awesome that you get to jam with your son!

[–] 2 pts

It is... He's moved to Georgia now so we don't get to play together much any more.

[–] 1 pt

You made it! Sweet!

You always look like you're having fun.

[–] 3 pts

That was fun, I always had a great time playing with my Son. I hope you and the Mrs. had a Great Christmas. I wanted to stay longer last night on Voat but kept getting kicked off and finally gave up.

[–] 1 pt

We had a great holiday. You?

And, yeah... The last thread on Voat was a hot mess. I stuck it out for quite a while, but eventually just left and went to bed.

[–] 5 pts

Welcome back our friends to the thread that never ends. Hope many of you will join in the celebration of homemade music and share it with us here. Music is better when shared.

[–] 1 pt

Music is better when shared.

That's definitely true. There's such a huge elemental, fundamental even, difference between jamming by yourself and performing in public.

I'm not sure how many folks are going to come over tonight, but we'll see. Two threads in one week is a bit much for some. It's also Christmas. We shall see...

[–] 4 pts

You did remember to tell everyone we have low standards, scantily-clad waitresses, and free drinks for the first 50 submitters, didn't you?

[–] 2 pts

Nah, we'll work our way up to that.
