No. His hardware will be different. Make sure the wifi works and the monitor works. Those are the two big ones.
The manufacturers don't always write drivers for Linux, 'cause they fucking suck balls.
So, sometimes there are hardware issues - but they're fairly rare.

There's LibreOffice Writer, gnote, and gedit all installed. Look in the menu.
There's also a lovely light word processing app called 'abiword'.
If you do install it, it can be installed through the terminal or, more easily, through the package manager. It's called Synaptic in Linux Mint.
