Let me know...
So long as he just updates after it's set up how he wants, it should run without any problems.
If he starts fucking with stuff, that's when it starts to break. So long as you don't fuck with it, it should just work.
But, make sure the hardware all works first. If you have any questions, I'll be here off-and-on today.
I just asked him and he said, I dont like linux, and i asked him why, and he said he tried it before, and i asked him which version, and he says I don't know, so I told him there's thousands of different versions, let me out it on a flash drive and you can check it out and i talked him into checking it out at least LoL
You don't have to install it if you don't want.
Lots of people actually just use a live instance off a USB or maybe a DVD - though the USB is much faster these days.
If you do download Windows 10, make sure you get it from Microsoft. So long as he's still got the sticker on the back (assuming the laptop came with 10) then he can reinstall it.
This looks promising:

I've got several versions of windows 10 here on flash drives. Hell, I have a copy of it that installs all the software for a certain company I won't name.
