Practice will get him there. And, all he needs is the cowboy chords for the song. Literally, just G D C and I want to say E but it might be A. It might not even be more than just those three chords to do Denver's version. I'd have to listen to it again - though I suppose I could just dig up the chords.

I am sure he looked them up if he learned the song, you don't have to look them up.
