Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, . That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask COF, Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then .

I saw that there were some days where someone has done just that. My son guessed 5 grand to 10 grand

It depends on the track and what services you want/require. Many will require EMT and retrieval services, fuel attendants, etc... 5 to 10k is a reasonable estimate. Some tracks can be joined as a member and then you get lower prices, possibly even for full-track rental. More popular tracks are really expensive, like Daytona or Indy.

Now, driving on a track is (usually) nothing like what people expect. Paying $20 for some low-speed laps is a great way to introduce the track to you. If you get the chance to have someone qualified ride with you (probably not, but you can ask around) jump on it. If they have more track days than you, jump on the chance for some free coaching.

Most everyone thinks they can get on the track and race against the professionals. No, no you can not. (Me either.) It takes a whole lot of experience to be any good at it.

But... It doesn't take a whole lot of experience to have fun with it. Approach it with the idea of having a good time, meeting some great people, and getting a chance to drive on a legendary track for almost no money. Road America is a legendary track with some great features. Get out there, learn some stuff, have fun, and stay safe.

Also, listen carefully in the driver's meeting - and ask questions if you don't understand. Make sure you follow all the rules. You can likely look ahead and see what the rules are (I didn't dig that deep). You probably aren't even required to wear a helmet for the sunset cruise.

I just wonder what is considered low speed on a race track. I looked at a video of an Indy car on that track and he was hitting 180.

Is low speed 60? 35? 80?

LOL 45 maybe? Even that will be more than many of the folks will be able to drive on the corners. I'd expect y'all to hit 55 on the front straight.

Lemme find you something awesome...

I suspect many of you will have issues going even 45 in those corners. Also, read that PDF. It looks like a solid resource.

If you're taking your son, have him memorize it and tell you which corners are coming and when to expect them. You should have a professional coach do that, but he'll work in a pinch.
