They still (sometimes) wear out during a 24 hour race, but I don't think every team takes the 15 minutes to change them.

I want to say one series actually requires a brake change, but I can't recall which. They enforce the change to make the field more level and about the driver - not about the car. So, if one team can afford really good brakes, they don't get a time advantage over teams who couldn't afford them. I think it's still a mandatory stop in some series.
