Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link (fngt.gq). That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask COF, Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then you can donate.

While I'm not good enough to upload anything. Just know.

I will be playing a Dean ML 2a Bass (pic8.co) into a Proco Rat2 (pic8.co) into my Randall RVC (pic8.co) guitar tube amp.

While I dont have any Jack, Ill just have to drink this Captain and pretend to be Lemmy.

[–] 1 pt

Just so you know, we have REALLY low standards.

[–] 2 pts

I tried recording on my cell and it sounds like sheet.

[–] 1 pt

Let us be the judge of that!

[–] 1 pt

LOL That can take some practice. When I do record on a phone, I like to put the phone like 10'+ away from me. Either way, we really have low standards.

[–] 4 pts

Soon as phone is charged enough going record and upload to YouTube and post with my acoustic some blues

[–] 0 pt

I'll be around for a while. If not, someone'll be here all weekend.

[–] 1 pt

Awesome. I am hoping to get my guitar done this weke. I only have a basic meter to test with and had few issues. Firstly I wonder if anyone here would know if a dual gang blender and wiring a push-pull so when it's up neck and mid are wired series.

[–] 0 pt

I honestly have yet to wire a push-pull. I've used a luthier or just bought what I wanted since those gained in popularity.

https://youtu.be/3innyVtLj_4 Evening folks I'm a little Christmasish tonight

[–] 0 pt

Lovely! Thanks for sharing, and have a very Merry Christmas!

[–] 0 pt

That was awesome. Merry Christmas Carl! Nice to see you again

[–] 1 pt

Merry Christmas right back at ya Crazy.

[–] 0 pt

Nice! We'll be doing our 'official' Christmas next week, but we might as well get started early!

That's a pretty old recording you got there. I like it, including the capoed 4th. You do look mildly buzzed in that video.

[–] 1 pt

It is an oldy . As the high, nope... old can lights ... hot as hell, and I just wanted out of there. I'll see if I can record something christmas - like for next week

[–] 0 pt

Yeah, we normally try for something new for the holiday. I never give any indication ahead of time as to what that something might be. We've done some full TSO covers and the likes in the past.

And, yeah, the old lights will melt your face off. LEDs are nicer - but not as much nicer as many think. It's still really damned hot under them.

Hey all, happy crappy Friday! Here's something happy.

Thump (soundcloud.com)

[–] 1 pt

I'm just getting to the wine, but it's still not crappy.

[–] 1 pt

That's cool as hell. Part if it reminded me of Manfred Mans do wap ditty. Sounds like 60's surf rock on drugs

[–] 2 pts

Here is another song that my friend Chris and I jammed out to last night. Neil Youngs Keep On Rockin' In The Free World (soundcloud.com)

[–] 1 pt

I'm not so sure that I like the banjo in there, but it is indeed a song that matched your request. At least y'all tried the whole bitchin' solo with the banjo.

[–] 1 pt

Well my girlfriend was playing the other acoustic guitar along with us and I wanted to play too, so I grabbed the damned banjo that I don't really know how to play!

[–] 0 pt

I'm good, so long as y'all had fun. I mean, we do have pretty fucking low standards.

I think a lot of folks don't realize exactly how low our standards really are.

[–] 2 pts

Hello and welcome to another FNGT! Like "normal", we'll go ahead and get you started.

If you're interested in opening/running a guitar thread and want to help out, we've probably got it - but having a third person would be awesome.

Anyhow, this was busted out for COF more than anything else. I wasn't really here last week, so I didn't share it then. He always appreciated my classical pieces and this one is no exception, It's a lovely piece with some great complexity.

Bach - BWV 834 (TB) (share.fngt.gq)

Next week is our Christmas Guitar Thread, though I may be late getting here due to a family event. I'm gonna need someone to open that thread, or it's gonna be late. Under the circumstances, I'm okay with either.

In any event, rock on!

[–] 2 pts

Mighty fine pickin Brother so VERY well done.

[–] 1 pt

Thanks! Glad ya liked it.

As mentioned, it was recorded for COF.

I've not heard from him in a bit, but his family has said they'll let me know when the day comes. I'll let the rest of y'all know.

[–] 1 pt

Very nice. I've been wonderin' about a few things, and I was hopin' you wouldn't mind a short "interview".

Are you completely self-taught or have you had lessons somewhere along the way? Were you in the school band when you were young? When did you first pick up the guitar? When did you start your first band?

[–] 1 pt

I started off with percussion at like five years old. I come from a fairly musical family. I took formal classical guitar lessons from the age of 11 until about the age of 18. After that, I'd still take the opportunity to study from skilled guitarists, though much less formally. I'd also give lessons, eventually giving lessons to what I'd have to call a 'masterclass' when I matured and was 20ish years into it.

I didn't really want to be a classical guitarist - but that was the requirement from my parents who were to buy my equipment and pay for my lessons. I wanted to be a rock star, not a classical guitarist. I regret nothing, because those classical skills have led to me being able to learn any style of guitar I've wanted to learn.

My first band was a horrible affair at the age of 16. Oddly, we managed to get a recording contract. That was horrible. We toured down the east coast so that the studio could see how well we could draw a crowd. We then trekked across the country to Los Angeles. That went down really poorly. If you've heard Needle And The Damage Done then you've kinda heard our story. While we'd actually go to the studio to record, we never laid down a single track.

Suffice to say, they canceled our contract and wanted all their money back. Money was sorely lacking and I actually had to get financial help from my parents to return to the east coast and join the United States Marine Corps.

[–] 1 pt

Cool, thanks so much for sharing. Did you continue to play in the Marines? Or was it something you returned to after your stint?

[–] 0 pt

That sounds so beautiful. Wonderful playing man!

[–] 1 pt

takes a bow

Gotta have some classical guitar once in a while. It's actually easier for us if we record a classical tune.

[–] 0 pt

I love classical music! Be it a guitar or and orchestra or a quartet. It's just so magnificent

[–] 1 pt

Hello everybody. Hope you're all doing well. My friend Chris stopped over last night and we jammed out for a few hours. Here is a song we learned last night that was written by my dad. We did another one he had wrote a few weeks back and had so much fun doing it that we decided to do another one. Here is Floyd Beethoven's Let's Make Oshkosh A Party Town Again (soundcloud.com)

[–] 0 pt

Nice! You've got all sorts of stuff you can cover that's likely never been covered before.

[–] 0 pt

Yeah, we were working on another one last night too. The most difficult part is trying to figure out the lyrics!

[–] 0 pt

LOL Yeah, I can see that.

[–] 0 pt

Here is another tune that we jammed out last night. The Beatles Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (soundcloud.com)

[–] 0 pt

Hmm... I had a story for this song, but damned if I can remember it. Silly wine...

Either way, it's not about LSD.

[–] 0 pt

I have no idea what they are singing about

Picture yourself in a boat on a river With tangerine trees and marmalade skies Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly A girl with kaleidoscope eyes Cellophane flowers of yellow and green Towering over your head Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes And she's gone Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers That grow so incredibly high Newspaper taxis appear on the shore Waiting to take you away Climb in the back with your head in the clouds And you're gone Picture yourself on a train in a station With plasticine porters with looking glass ties Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile The girl with the kaleidoscope eyes

[–] 1 pt

Yeah Lennon was just fucking around. It don't mean anything.

BTW Elton John's version is really good.
