Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, . That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then .

I have no clue about HBO going off air, we never had cable

That's another thing... People think 'cable used to be all ad free!'

You hear that a lot. It's a lie, of course. Well, if nothing else, it's a mistake.

See, cable was originally just broadcast TV for places that couldn't get reception. The community would put up a tower on a nearby hill and then run cable to the people in the community who subscribed to it. The only thing cable carried was the same local channels everyone else could get if they didn't live in the valley.

Eventually, cable would add their own community channels in many areas. That's how you ended up with community access cable.

But, no... No, cable had all the same ads the regular TV had because it was the same exact channels that everyone else got. There was no mechanism to remove ads from those OTA broadcasts and they're have been sued out of existence had they tried.

And that's the goddamned truth about cable. It kinda irks me when I see people say shit like how cable had no ads at first.

I think that the cable channels advertised add free, or less ads, at the beginning and that's where people got that into their heads

Indeed - some of the initial cable-only channels were paid by subscriptions and not by ads.

It still isn't nearly the same as people claim, that cable was ad-free from the start. You see that trotted out like every time someone's complaining online about television commercials or other advertisements. People believe it to be true, even though they can easily verify what cable was, how it worked, where it was used, and what the tech of the day was.

I think I should get paid by Google finally. I set my AdSense account to not pay out until there was at least $300 in there. Well, there's no more than $300 in there. I set up a bank account for them to deposit to. It's an account exclusively for said deposits. Any money transferred there will get saved or transferred out. Actually, I think it comes with a debit card. So, I can just keep the money in there now that I think about it.

In the past 30 days, the ad revenue has been ~$2.00 a day, just above that.

It still doesn't cover my hosting costs... LOL
