Oh, fuck...
Yeah, a new guitar student would subscribe to a guitar magazine at some point - but probably not right away. They'd likely start by buying them off the shelf from a book store or their local guitar shop.
I bought a few of them from the magazine rack over the years when it had a song I would have liked to know how to play in there, or a Van Halen interview LoL
LOL I also cheated. I went back last night and grabbed a couple of books, one on theory and the other on scales.
They were only like $15 total, but it's definitely cheating. A new person would want those books, however.
My next guitar purchase will have to cost even less. I'll work my way down to the point where the guitars are no longer really playable.
Wait... No, I only ordered one additional book.

That and the chord bible I ordered are the only two books. It was $10 for it, which puts me in the $330 range all told - maybe a dollar or two more.
I've got like a dozen packages arriving next week. LOL That'll annoy someone, probably the staff that lugs 'em up to my room.
Now-a-days I think people would be more likely to use youtube videos and watch a guitar teacher doing things and try to emulate them over buying books.
