I can play it that way just fine - it's habit that makes me not do so.

The other one I'll work on is making my G chord without my pointer finger - as already mentioned.

He can't make a power chord? Like, a simple G 5th?

If he can't play the first, he's kinda fucked. It's not that complicated - check his fretting hand position and wrist angle. If it's the 2nd he can't play, it's just some practice tha the needs.

Yeah, he can't play the first, he kind of plays the second, but the low root note G he just does not play

Yeah, he'd likely do better with a formal instructor who can show him what he's gotta do to get it right. Then, he'd have to apply.

Interesting fact I learned today. 2020 and 2021 had more guitar sales than any other year - ever.

The pandemic is obviously to blame. So, give it three more years and there will be some great used gear on the market. But, in five to ten years, those people will be the next generation of guitarists.

A few years ago, the discussion was if guitar was dead. There were very few people joining the industry - even has hobby players. The pandemic may have saved the guitar!

That's cool. I suppose people were looking for something to do when they couldn't get out and do the things they normally do. Those that had always wanted to learn to play guitar but never really had the time to devote to it decided now is the time collectively. Cause we all had extra time at home with nowhere to go!
