Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link. That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then you can donate.

Does the amp and cabinet he built for you rock?

Damned right it did/does. I haven't used it in years. The cab's built with a weird back that's meant to push all the sound forward. The amp is pretty basic but supports two independent channels and you can do nifty things like flip a switch to have each of the channels using two different speakers in the cab. There's a basic knob EQ for both channels, each with their own volume, and even has RCA as an output option should you want to connect to a house PA system instead.

The amp itself is a combo, meaning it has a pair of speakers in it, but you turn those off when you're running a cabinet from it.

It's rated at 1000 watts and I've yet to so much as tear a speaker. I used it for years. I also haven't turned it on in years. I suspect it'd start right up - it was pretty slow to warm up being tube based. So, I suspect it'd power on and take a few minutes to really warm up. Worst case, I might have to throw in replacement tubes (but they were fine when I last used it) and maybe examine the board for a swollen capacitor or something.

I paid him like $500 for it back in the day. It was/is the perfect pedal platform.

Sounds awesome! I bet it sounds awesome too! LoL

It does. It's a pretty 'deep' cabinet - much deeper than say Marshall half stacks. There are like resonating chambers and stuff attached to the rear cover that are all meant to take the sound and move it forward.

The speakers in it are 12" and I want to say they came from a pair of fairly fancy organs. So, they have tremendous range in them. When I wrote '4 x 4' I meant '4 x 12'. It weighs a ton but it's on wheels. They're even locking wheels. I wouldn't take it onstage these days. It takes two men and a boy just to move it. The box itself is 1" thick maple. There are other holes in the front that folks would think are tweeters, but they're not - they're just holes to let air and sound out the front. The back is, as mentioned, sealed. So, you've gotta get air to move air. Thus the holes.

As far as amps go, especially tube amps, it's one of the cleanest amps I've ever known. That's what makes it a great pedal platform. Well, that and the range that the speakers have.

Also, it's not like 8 or 16 ohm. I want to say it's 2 or 4 ohm. In other words, it's pretty fucking robust. If you lay it flat, you can fit it into a station wagon. He even did a bunch of math to determine the optimal speaker placement - with like distances between them and the rear of the cabinet and that sorta stuff.

Hmm... All this talk about it makes me kinda want to dig it out and see if it still works. If I crank it up, you can probably hear it from your house! (I kid... I kid...)
