It could also be some sort of rule, as rules are what makes it racing. There are all sorts of rules in racing that are just holdovers from years before. I'm also not really all that current. I used to keep up with MotoGP a bit, but I don't have the time for that these days. So, they may have changed that in the past few years and I just don't know about it.

Yeah, it could be. The rules are to provide an even playing field

Without rules, it's not really racing. Even if it's just some basic rules. These days, the major series have giant books of rules.
