I have not heard a thing about Dean
Gibson won a huge lawsuit against them and now there's a new CEO and the old one has had court papers filed against him for embezzling. The papers were filed by the dude's own mother.
Dean now can't make their V and Z models, as they've been deemed to violate Gibson's trademark. (They made those shapes for decades, so I'm not sure why it took this long - and everyone else copies Gibson's shapes.)
I dunno how much longer we'll see Dean as a guitar company.
So now Gibson owns those shapes and other companies that have copied the shapes have to stop too?
They've always owned those shapes since they trademarked them as many as 60ish years ago. They have sued other companies in the past.
Most other companies (except the Chibsons) are smart enough to make their versions different enough to not get sued.
They don't bother suing all the Asian companies, 'cause they know it'd be futile.
