yeah but the keyboard mouse thing i have is a mini one that sucks to type on it. It is usually in my lapptop case for work when I need it

The point of trying was merely to see if they worked and then the laptop worked. Then you'll know what needs to be replaced.

If the external mouse and keyboard don't work, you can chuck it in the trash. If they do work, you can replace the keyboard and touchpad (perhaps all one unit in your case) and be good to go. Well, and probably be good to go.
