You don't have to drive badly. The cop just has to stop you. They might even stop you by accident, thinking you're someone else. They could throw up a check-point any time they want. It's not worth it to me to risk it.
Besides, I carry 7 figures of insurance on my license. Can you imagine how much that'd cost me if I got a DUI?!? They might straight up decline to insure me and I'd have to carry a policy on every single car I own - plus file an SR-22. It'd be a whole lot of money to insure my cars...
If I get an OUI, I might just as well sell my collection.
Check points are illegal here. I'm not getting a oui. I'm too drunk to drive
Nice. Check points should be illegal everywhere. Alas, they're not...
But, all it takes is a cop with a hair across his ass and you're going to jail. Hell, I'm not even too worried about the jail aspect. That's nothing. Can you imagine how much I'd end up paying in insurance?!?
I carry a variety of insurances, but my license is liability and comprehensive insurance for $5,000,000.... I pay about $12k a year for this insurance. I have a perfect driving record, with no moving violations since the 70s - and no speeding tickets ever. I also have no 'at-fault' accidents on my record - ever.
So, I pay $12k - which, I am not sure if you are familiar with this, is an absolute steal. That covers everything I drive. That covers every circumstance - including if the other persons aren't insured, or even if I am entirely at fault. That covers vehicles that cost half the policy total - or more.
That may seem like a lot, but it's not. Not for the insurance I carry. (All I have to do is be involved in a fender bender and I'm a huge lawsuit target.)
With an OUI, I'm not sure I could even carry that insurance. I'd be dropped, or it'd be MULTIPLES of what it currently costs.
Someone was just asking me how much the insurance on your collection would be. Thats way less that they were thinking. They were guessing at least 2 grand a month
