That'll save some time!
None of what I ordered is all that expensive - they're just good. I'll leave it as a 'surprise', though you already know the gist of what's shipping.
Before you change the strings, you should play the guitars and listen carefully. Hell, you should record it so that you can see the difference between the cheap strings and the better-sourced stuff.
One of these days, I should box up some strings that I have here and ship 'em to you.
I have hundreds of sets of string, some going back years and would be considered vintage. I dunno if there's a vintage string market, but there probably is - though strings can go bad if they're too old and not stored well.
You know the big plastic totes that are like 2' high, 3' long, and 2' across? I have multiple totes filled with strings. Then, I have a bookcase kinda deal full of more strings. Then, I have drawers full of strings.
Some of 'em are like $20+ a set. Higher price doesn't always mean better. It's a good indicator, but I tend to look for the sweet spot - not too cheap and not too expensive. That seems to work.
I also refuse to have a favorite brand/model. Every time I have a favorite, the company changes it, goes out of business, or just plain stops making that model. It's the same thing with picks. I refuse to have a favorite brand and model of pick.
Err... I also have more picks than I'll use in three lifetimes.
However, I lose picks and never find them again. I have no fucking clue where they go, but I assume they disappear like socks - into a 4th dimension.
i have plenty of picks. And a couple six packs of donner strings
I'm not all that picky about picks - but I do prefer different styles for different things.
And, Donner strings are like 2nd from worst. There's another brand called something like Ophee, and they're the worst. Well, I'm sure other shitty brands exist.
You'll absolutely appreciate the tone.
The strings I'm sending will last a little while. I should send you some better ones next. Well, longer lasting... Coated strings are awesome. Even I will leave a set on for a month - and others will leave a set on for a year.
So, the next time I send you strings I'll likely get you some coated ones. They're pricier and I wanted to demonstrate that you didn't have to spend that much on 'em to get killer tones.
yeah but i get 5 sets for ten bucks!
